Katie Kostiuk, Registered Architect
As a child, I experienced first hand how lack of natural light, poor adjacencies of spaces, and lack of connection to outdoors in the built environment can impact our mental health and the family dynamic. And I was determined to make it better. At the age of 15, my deep passion for Residential Architecture inspired me to pursue a career in the field. During weekends, I found great pleasure in visiting open houses and model homes, and explored all the imaginative tools that Architecture employs to transform a mere house into a warm and inviting home.
I embarked on my journey in Architecture when I began interning for Bay Area firms at the young age of 16. Then I continued on to study at Rhode Island School of Design while working for firms during school breaks.
After completing my Bachelor of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Architecture degrees, I dedicated 8 years with one of the largest firms in the Country. It was important to me that I explore many areas of Architecture to be sure that residential work was my true passion. During my time with this renowned firm, I had the opportunity to delve into diverse market sectors, honing my skills and gaining invaluable experience. My mentors empowered me in my career choices, and helped cultivate my communication, organization strategies and professionalism, skills that are not often found in Residential Architecture.
I obtained my Architecture license in 2007 and have been licensed in the states of California and Georgia. In 2013, I made the decision to wholeheartedly commit my career trajectory to Residential Architecture in the vibrant San Francisco Bay Area. I spent two years at a residential design-build company on the Peninsula before spreading my wings and founding Fat Pen Studios in 2015. Additionally, I proudly served my community as an Architect on the San Mateo County Coastside Design Review Committee for 6 years.
I look forward to continuing to provide the highest level of professionalism, creativity and collaboration for my clients.
